Maulana Dr. Waffie Mohammed

While the Qur'an and Sunnah are the sources of Guidance for the believers, there are some topics, the principles of which are mentioned, but details are not given. In such cases Muslim Jurists try to arrive at conclusions using other methods, such as analogy. The conclusions arrived at are called Fiqh (Jurisprudence). The different interpretations result in the different Schools of Thought called Mazhabs.

The Hanafi School is the oldest of the Mazahibs and is named after its founder Imam Abu Hanifa and his students Abu Yousuf and Muhammad. The basic conclusions of the Hanafis are compiled in the book Mukhtasar al Qudoori.
