The two main sources of Islamic knowledge are the Qur’an and the Sunnah. The Qur’an came directly from Allah and is the first source of Islamic knowledge. It must be strictly followed at all times. Sunnah came from the Prophet Muhammad (pboh).


The Sunnah which is also known as Ahadith, (plural of Hadith) is defined as “that which was reported as having been said or done by the Prophet (pboh). Also whatever he witnessed or approved.


While the Qur’an is the first source of guidance, we, with our limited capacity to understand everything about Islam as is contained in it, need to take help from the life-pattern of the Prophet (pboh) in order to be able to apply the Divine injunctions in our daily lives. As a result we need to know about the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (pboh)...
