The human being is a very interesting and amazing creature, very different from the rest of the earthly species in creation. This is because man’s origin is from clay while the rest of the creatures on earth originated from water.

Man is required to know as much as possible about the structure and function of his personality; in all its dimensions. He needs to understand the ways in which the physical and the non-physical (spiritual) can work together, and how such an accommodation can enable him to refine his purpose and focus in life, as has been defined in Islam.

It will be of great value and benefit to the individual if he is able to familiarise himself with the requirements necessary for cultivating his personality to become a healthy and productive unit, regarding the relationship of his body and soul; as a member of society, in a beneficial environment, all the time maintaining an acceptable connection with the Creator of the universe.

There is no end to the amount of efforts and resources required in man’s endeavour to know more about himself, and his connection with nature. Allah informs us about this in the following verse of the Holy Qur’an: We shall show them Our Signs in the universe and in their persons; until it becomes manifest to them that this is definitely the Truth. (41:53)
